Firming the lower body is difficult, regardless of how much you exercise. If you would like to firm and tighten the hips, thighs, and buttocks, a single procedure known as a lower body lift can help you do just that. Find out more by scheduling a consultation at Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center in Green or Beachwood, OH. Headed by Dr. Steven Carp, these clinics serves patients throughout the Canton, Cleveland and Akron, OH, areas.
A lower body lift surgery is recommended for people whose bodies are in good condition yet still have excess skin in certain areas. The excess skin could be caused by extreme weight loss due to dieting, gastric bypass surgery, or a number of other conditions. A lower body lift is a procedure that simply lifts and tightens the skin of the butt and thighs.
A great way to enhance your self-confidence and improve your self-esteem is by getting a lower body lift. This procedure will give your body a more youthful look by reducing extra fat tissue and skin. The end result is a smoother body contour and smoother skin.
What Are Lower Body Lifts?
A lower body lift is a procedure that helps reduce sagging skin by removing excess tissue from the inner thigh and lateral hip. The saggy skin could have been caused by weight loss, pregnancy, aging, or any other number of reasons. While liposuction and lower body lifts can be performed together, one does not replace the other. Liposuction removes fat from the body while the lift will tighten the skin where the fat was removed. The two make great partners, but one should not confuse the two procedures.

People who maintain a steady weight are ideal for body lift procedures. If your weight fluctuates more than a few pounds, you plan on becoming pregnant, or you have underlying health conditions, it is not recommended that you have a lower body lift. While the results of the procedure are intended to be enjoyed for many years, the results will be reversed if rapid weight gain of more than a few pounds or extreme changes to your body occur. A body lift procedure can be performed on an adult of any age, but you must have realistic goals and a steady diet.
Good candidates are people with the following characteristics:
- Have unruly soft tissue that is loose in one or more areas of the body
- Are healthy and do not have underlying medical conditions that could cause adverse side effects from the procedure
- Do not smoke
- Have a realistic body goal and a positive mindset
Where Do I Begin?
The first step is a consultation with Dr. Carp. He will educate you on how a body lift can improve your body and self-confidence. The consultation will include discussing the following:
- Your wants and needs
- How to care for your body before, during, and after the procedure
- The options available for you
- The risks and complications that could occur
- The treatment and procedures that Dr. Carp recommends based on his findings
Evaluation
The impact of the body lift procedure can be affected by your overall health and your personal expectations and outlook on the procedure itself. Your health, expectations, and outlook will be monitored and discussed in detail during your consultation. Your satisfaction, safety, and the ultimate success of the procedure all require you to be the following:
- Completely honest when expressing your expectations and concerns
- Forthcoming when giving details about your health, use of medications (prescription and over-the-counter), use of vitamins and other supplements, and your use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs
- Committed to following the doctor’s orders
Your Lower Body Lift Procedure
When preparing for the surgery, Dr. Carp will mark the areas that are to be worked on. The markings will indicate where incisions will be made, lifts will occur, and other important factors. During the first stage of the procedure, you will be lying face down. Dr. Carp will work on your inner thighs and buttocks during this stage. During the second stage, Dr. Carp will be performing almost the exact same procedure as a tummy tuck. After your lower body lift, you should be prepared to stay at least one night in the hospital. During the stay, you will be monitored closely to ensure that you do not have adverse side effects.
Preparing for Your Lower Body Lift
Before surgery, Dr. Carp will go over all of the procedures that will occur during your surgery, and you may be given instructions that include but are not limited to the following:
- Medications needed, diagnostics testing, and considerations dealing with pre-surgery prep
- Instructions leading up to the day of surgery
- Information about the use of anesthesia and the effects that it could have
- Post-op care and follow-up instructions
Following Lower Body Lift Surgery
After surgery, drainage systems will be placed at every incision. This prevents fluid from building up and causing infections or other complications. Dr. Carp will apply dressings to the incisions, and it is likely that you will be placed in a garment that resembles a girdle. Patients who have lower body lifts must stay for observation for at least 24 hours, but that time can increase depending on the concerns that the doctor may have regarding your procedure.
How Much Does a Lower Body Lift Cost?
A lower body lift is considered to be elective, so most insurance providers won’t cover the costs. To help make lower body lifts affordable and accessible for everyone, Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center offers financing options. We also accept cash, personal checks, and major credit cards.
Progress and Healing
During the first stages of recovery, the incisions sites will likely swell, but this is completely normal. Discomfort is common but can be alleviated with proper medication and care. One of the most important instructions that you will be given is to begin walking and moving about as soon as possible. Moving about will help decrease your chances of blood clots forming.
For a few days following surgery, you must avoid over-exerting your abdominal region in any way. Some things to avoid doing are bending, lifting and straining. You will want to ask Dr. Carp about standing completely upright because this may cause some of the sutures (internal and external) to come loose. It is crucial that all of your instructions are followed carefully and fully. You can typically return to light duty as soon as 2 to 3 weeks after your surgery.
After surgery, the actual wounds should heal within approximately 14 days. After they are healed, Dr. Carp will remove the necessary sutures, and you should be able to return to normal activities. Even though you will be back to doing your normal activities, you will still want to make sure that you are not lifting anything heavy or exercising too vigorously.
For several weeks following surgery, healing will continue to progress. The swelling will subside, and your incision lines will continue to heal and shrink. Throughout the duration of your healing process, you will need to be very aware of using sun protection. Continue following Dr. Carp’s orders, and you should be fully recovered in no time.
Results and Outlook
The results of the lift are almost immediately visible, but it can take many months for the final results to be fully seen. The numbness and firmness of the skin will dissipate over time. It can take more than a year for all of the incisions to fade away to a small scar, and they will be easily hidden from view by most clothing.
Your new body and contours will last for years as long as you properly maintain your health, weight, and body. As you age, it is likely that you will lose some firmness, but the results will still be noticeable and many clients enjoy the results of the procedure for decades.
A lower body lift is a major surgery, but it offers significant improvements for the body. People who have lost significant amounts of weight tend to find this procedure ideal because it helps their bodies adjust to the weight loss in a more proportionate way.
